News Report on the footings
DANGER!!!! BE AWARE!!!
There are hundreds of concrete transmission line footings on, near, or crossing the Sakakawea Fence Stretchers Trail Association trail system. These footings are made of concrete, 4 to 6 feet in diameter with more than 20 steel anchor bolts sticking up from the concrete, they are only 1 to 3 feet above ground level so they will become buried in the snow with very minimal snow cover and will become impossible to see, be very careful if you venture off the trail, it could be deadly if you hit one with your snowmobile, until the structures are erected there is currently no way to see them once covered. if you stay on the trail and follow the signage you will be fine, if you go off trail that is where the hazards are hiding. We are currently talking with the power company to hopefully get these off trail footings marked in some manner to make them visible when snow covered. If you ride in the area of the SFS trail please review the map below so you know the areas of concern .
